Vastu Shastra — the Eight Directions
Vastu Shastra is the Vedic science of spatial arrangement — how subtle energy flows through a built space. At its heart is the Vastu Purusha Mandala, a diagram dividing every space into eight cardinal directions, each presided over by a deity and an element. Placing the right crystal in each direction amplifies that direction’s natural quality and harmonises the whole field of the home.
How to place them
Place the chosen crystal in the corresponding corner of your main living space, bedroom, or office — ideally at eye level or on a small altar. Cleanse each piece monthly under moonlight. Begin with the northeast (the sacred corner) and move clockwise. You don’t need all eight at once; even one correctly placed crystal shifts the field.
The eight directions in detail
Placed in the north, citrine aligns with Kubera, lord of wealth. Its golden frequency amplifies the direction’s natural pull toward prosperity and new income. Keep on the desk or at the cash drawer.
The northeast is the most sacred direction — the corner of the household temple. Clear quartz, the master amplifier, enhances Ishan’s cosmic frequency and clarifies the entire field of the home.
Placed in the east, sunstone carries Surya’s own frequency — radiant, golden, vital. Strengthens morning practice, health, and new ventures. Put near the window that catches dawn.
Red fire quartz — clear quartz shot through with red iron and hematite — belongs to Agni’s direction. Quartz’s clarity holds Agni’s fire visibly within it. Place in the southeast corner of the home to activate disciplined effort and guard the hearth.
Black obsidian belongs to Yama’s direction. It grounds, shields, and transmutes heavy energy. Placed in the south, it stabilises the household and protects against psychic intrusion and ancestral weight.
The southwest is the heaviest direction — where the master of the house sleeps. Herkimer diamond, a high-vibration double-terminated quartz, balances the density with light and clears stagnant ancestral energy.
Green aventurine in the west supports Varuna’s flow of steady gains. The luck crystal amplifies opportunity and cushions the household’s forward movement.
The northwest is Vayu’s direction — flowing, changeable. Moonstone, sacred to Chandra and to the lunar cycle, harmonises this quality and supports friendship, travel, and graceful transitions.
