About Moonstone
Moonstone is orthoclase feldspar with thin layers of albite interleaved within it — the layers scatter light to produce adularescence, the milky blue glow that seems to float above the crystal. It is named for the ancient belief that it was moonlight frozen.
Sacred to Chandra (the Moon) in Jyotish, and one of the crystals worn for Chandra's placement in the birth chart. Worn by Indian brides for a fertile marriage, and by Roman women for the cycles.

How to Identify a Real Moonstone
Common fakes: Opalite (man-made glass marketed as ‘sea moonstone’ or ‘synthetic moonstone’).
How to tell the real thing: Real moonstone has adularescence — a soft blue or white glow that appears to float *inside* the stone and shifts as you turn it. Opalite shows a flat colour that looks painted on. Real moonstone is slightly cloudy, never glass-clear.
