Garnet is a family of crystals, most commonly deep red pyrope or almandine — iron aluminium silicates formed in metamorphic rock under immense pressure. That geology mirrors the crystal's energy: it takes compression and returns fire.

Common fakes: Dyed glass, plastic, or less valuable stones passed off as the real thing.

How to tell the real thing: Real crystals are heavier than glass or plastic of the same size, stay cool to the touch, and usually show natural inclusions or colour zoning — too-uniform colour is a warning sign. Buy from trusted sources and ask the seller about origin and treatment.
